Grammy Award-winning musician and producer Wyclef Jean launched his latest musical effort with the debut of the heavily autobiographical project “Clef Notes – Quantum Leap, Volume 1.” The eight-track collection marks the opening installment of a highly ambitious initiative in which Jean intends to release seven separate full-length collections over the span of a single calendar year.
The project serves as a sonic journey through Jean’s formative years, referencing specific eras of his life directly through chronological track titles. Among the initial offerings is the single “Mr. October,” a collaboration with Chicago rapper G Herbo that anchors a musical exploration of Jean’s early hip-hop genesis. Reflecting on his intent to lift up younger musical voices through these collaborative tracks, Jean shared, “G Herbo represents the voice of a generation. We’re living in an era where we must amplify reform over violence and believe in the possibility of a better future for underserved communities.”
To bolster the project, Jean features an array of cross-generational talent, with appearances from contemporary hip-hop mainstay Rapsody on the track “1994 – Boom Bap,” alongside a robust collaborative effort titled “1997 – GBTC (God Bless The Child)” featuring Lil Wayne, Andra Day, and jazz trumpeter Theo Croker.
Jean will take his new material on a multi-city festival circuit throughout the summer months to support the expansive rollout of the “Quantum Leap” project. Scheduled appearances include sets at the Hollywood Bowl for the Blue Note Jazz Festival and the Ottawa Jazz Festival.
