Erykah Badu and The Alchemist have teamed up for the new song, “Next to You,” which came amid the artists’ joint tour of Japan.
According to a press release, Badu self-executive produced, wrote, composed, arranged and produced the single in collaboration with The Alchemist, who provided the beat from his classic 1999 record “The Realest” featuring the late Prodigy and Kool G Rap from Mobb Deep‘s fourth album, Murda Muzik. In addition, Badu and The Alchemist will premiere their collaborative album Abi & Alan exclusively during their ‘Luv Iz… Tour,’ before the album hits streaming platforms — marking what is believed to be a music industry first.
The Abi & Alan Luv Is Tour will give audiences the exclusive opportunity to experience the entire album performed live by Badu and The Cannabinoids before its official release on August 29th. This marks what is believed to be the first time in music history that an artist has chosen to debut their album during live concerts rather than through traditional release channels. Tickets are now available at baduworldmarket.com.
Badu has not released an album since 2010’s New Amerykah, Pt. 2: Return of the Ankh, which she followed with the 2015 mixtape But You Can’t Use My Phone. Meanwhile, The Alchemist recently shared a collaboration with Larry June and 2 Chainz titled Life Is Beautiful.
